The elephant is tied with a thick rope when it is very young. The calf tries to escape but fails to do so. Over the years, the elephant realizes that it is impossible to overcome the rope. When the calf grows up, its mind is conditioned in such a manner that even the flimsiest rope is enough to prevent escape.
